ALPS Corporation, a dynamic and growing professional liability insurance and services company, is seeking self-driven individuals for a Underwriting position in Missoula, Montana.  The Underwriter will be part of a team whose responsibility is to maintain a profitable growth of the ALPS book of business.  ALPS is the nation’s largest direct writer of LPLI and is an endorsed carrier by more State Bar Associations than any other carrier in the country.

The primary responsibility of this Underwriting role is to provide strategic assessment of risk , which includes analyzing applications, determining insurability at acceptable pricing and terms within the limits of underwriting authority, and binding coverage.  This position requires additional duties such as mentoring colleagues, providing customer service to internal and external customers, and participation in group projects centered on overall organizational goals.

POSITION SUMMARY  

The Underwriter has overall responsibility for profitable growth of the ALPS book. The role requires strategic assessment of risks, which includes analyzing applications, determining insurability at acceptable pricing and terms within the limits of underwriting authority, and binding coverage. The Underwriter is also responsible for maintaining and servicing the accounts as assigned. This position requires additional duties such as mentoring colleagues, providing customer service to internal and external customers, and participation in group projects centered on overall organizational goals. 

The Underwriter must follow the Underwriting Guidelines and Rate Filings, and contribute to updates when requested. 

ALPS employees are expected to maintain a positive work atmosphere through communication and behavior that is courteous, cooperative, non-harassing and respectful to customers, co-workers, supervisors and management. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS  

1. Analyzes new and renewal applications to determine eligibility and continuation of eligibility for Lawyers Professional Liability insurance. Determines degree of risk, insurability and appropriate pricing based on such factors as claim’s history, longevity with ALPS, changes within the firm, and areas of practice. Follows underwriting guidelines and company standards and procedures. 

2. Documents activity, changes and endorsements to accounts.  Underwriters’ electronic signatures as authorized representatives are attached to all policies and endorsements before being sent.  Prepares documentation including notices of cancellation, cancellation memos, non-renewal notices and declination notices. Prepares quotes for Extended Reporting Endorsements and requotes for revised applications.

3. Maintains assigned renewal book of business. Requests additional documentation, as needed. Responds to customer service needs and explains coverage and potential coverage as well as underwriting decisions. 

4. Attains premium, loss ratio and service goals as assigned. 

5. Trains and mentors new underwriters, cross-trains others, as indicated. Assists others with additional work when necessary.

6. Assists all sales personnel in their training and product knowledge and in meeting their assigned goals and objectives. 

7. Keeps informed about the industry, market trends and competition and communicates changes to other employees and management. 

8. Performs other duties/responsibilities and attends meetings as necessary and assigned by management. 

9. Contributes to the maintenance of the proprietary software and provides IT with function design and suggestions to better serve the internal and external customers and reporting.

ALPS, a dynamic and growing professional liability insurance and services company, is seeking a self-driven professional for an Account Manager position in Missoula, Montana.  This service and sales position will be part of a team whose responsibility is to maintain and grow our current customer base in Lawyer's Professional Liability (LPL) insurance. ALPS is the nation's largest direct writer of lawyer's malpractice insurance and is endorsed by more State Bar Associations than any other carrier in the country.

POSITION SUMMARY  

This position is responsible for initiating and finalizing a professional, efficient, personalized and quality-driven customer service experience for the customer. Develops relationships with customers and potential customers, initiating contact for renewals and follow-up to market ALPS product and policy. Prepares applications and quotes, correspondence and reports; provides certificates of insurance; and contacts insureds for credit card information; prepares call lists, and attends State Bar conventions and meetings. Responds to immediate needs of the customer, and works in conjunction with the customer, underwriter, and other co-workers.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS  

1. Provides excellent customer service and first line of contact for customers and prospects. Responds to questions, queries and quote information by telephone, e-mail, fax and general mail.  

2. Reviews new applications and renewals, and follows up to ensure accuracy and completion of all documentation.  

3. Works with underwriting in gathering additional information required for new applications, policy issue, and method of payment.   

4. Develops systems to support customer needs. Compiles statistics and maintains reports for team, other disciplines and management.   

5. Attends State Bar and other conventions and meetings. Represents RRG and ALPS Family of Professional Services. 

6. Prepares and maintains call lists, and participates in generating and contacting new business leads.  

7. Performs other duties/responsibilities and attends meetings as necessary and assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education: Undergraduate degree or equivalent sales/marketing/customer service experience.  Current state license or ability to attain licensure to sell insurance. 

Minimum Experience:  Two year’s work experience in a fast paced administrative position. Two year’s customer service, telephone sales and/or marketing in a professional business, insurance or agency setting.    

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of insurance terminology. Excellent telephone, inter-personal communication and writing skills, attention to detail, resourceful and creative, organized and able to multi-task. Ability to anticipate, identify and resolve customer service issues. Able to work as part of a team and independently, delivering excellent customer service to the external and internal customer. A high degree of computer proficiency, adapting quickly to improving technology, and willing to learn.   

Other Qualifications: Requires continuing education courses and professional licensure. Adaptable to fast-paced frequently changing corporate and work environment. Professional, self-confident, and uses good judgment.  

Travels and attends company booth at conventions and meetings.
